Haruki Murakami Book Series Redesign

Haruki Murakami’s novels exist in a world where the surreal and the ordinary intertwine, exploring themes of memory, identity, and parallel realities. His storytelling, often dreamlike yet deeply human, inspired the design approach for this series of eight book covers.

The redesign follows a structured yet dynamic grid system, allowing key elements like title, author’s name, and series number to shift across the grid, creating a sense of variation while maintaining cohesion. To unify the series, I incorporated the ensō, a hand-drawn Japanese symbol representing imperfection, continuity, and the interconnectedness of all things, much like Murakami’s narratives, which weave recurring motifs and hidden connections across his independent works. The result is a series that feels both intentional and organic, mirroring the essence of Murakami’s literary world.
